K-Beauty Expert Shares 10-Step Korean Skincare for Beginners
There’s one thing that Koreans taught the world about beauty and that is to prioritize your skincare over makeup. After hearing (and trying) a lot of KPop artists and celebrities’ beauty regimens here in Beauty Insider, we can say that getting a flawless, bright, and youthful glow is not easy. Their famous 10-step Korean Skincare routine involves a whole lot of trial and error, which might scare beginners away.
It starts with finding the right skincare products. The routine must be tailored to your skin type and conditions. You also need to make sure that the products you use work well together and won’t irritate your skin. Everyone reacts differently to different products so take time to know the products that are best for you.
If you’re one of those people who just got into K-Beauty, you will find this guide on the 10-step Korean skincare routine highly useful:
Step 1: Oil Cleanser
The 10-step Korean skincare starts with a double cleansing process. First, an oil cleanser will dissolve all the waterproof makeup, excess oil, and dirt that accumulated on your face. This process saves you from using harsh cleansers which irritate the skin.
Tip: Look for an oil cleanser that doesn’t strip your skin’s natural oils.
Step 2: Water-based Cleanser
After oil cleansing, it is time to lather up using a water-based cleanser. This process washes away the remaining dirt and oil residue from the cleansing oil.
Double cleansing will make you feel fresh and clean, without feeling dry or super tight. It doesn’t stress the skin, unlike those harsh cleansers do.
Step 3: Acne Treatment
Everybody hates pimples. A good acne treatment product should be able to shrink the size of your existing pimples and remove dead skin cells to prevent breakouts.
Tip: Acne treatment solutions can be used everyday. If you’re using an exfoliant scrub, exfoliate every after two days.
Step 4: Vitamin C Serum
Important tip: Refrain from using another acidic skincare product when using Vitamin C serums. An acidic solution combined with another acidic product is not really a good combination. If you have sensitive skin, it is best to alternate the use of your acne treatment product and this serum.
Step 5: Toner
Toners are unmissable in the 10-step Korean skincare. Really, this alcohol-free liquid penetrates deep and hydrates the skin. It also boosts the skin’s ability to absorb products. As a result, you maximise the effects of all the skincare products you use.
Step 6: Serum or Essence
The serums and essences available today have are concentrated with vitamins and active ingredients that target skin issues. Worn after the toner, these liquid skincare products will be easily absorbed by the skin and will deliver visible results much faster than regular skin creams.
Step 7: Moisturizer
Step 8: Eye Cream
The skin around your eyes are vulnerable and ages faster than any part of the body. Use eye creams crafted with anti-aging ingredients. It will help erase fine lines and crow’s feet. Don’t miss this step especially now that you have a maturing skin.
Step 9: Overnight Pack
Make it a habit to wear sleeping packs before you hit the sheets. These masks will help seal all the nutrients from the skincare products you used overnight. It hydrates, brightens, and firms the skin as you snooze. After your beauty rest, you’ll wake up with a skin that looks and feels great!
Step 10: Sunscreen
In the morning, repeat the process but replace the overnight mask with a sunscreen with SPF 15 to 50. Anything higher than 50 is a huge waste of money because SPF 15 can screen 93% of the sun’s UVB rays, SPF 30 filters up to 97%, and SPF 50, 98%. Don’t forget to wear sunscreen because it prevents sunburn, darkening, skin cancer, premature aging, and other irreversible skin damage.
That’s it! A KBeauty routine for beginners. We hope you got all the products you need and understood the correct order of application. It’s a lot but once you get the hang of it, it won’t feel like a chore anymore.
