It can sometimes seem like a full-time job and an impossible task… But I am here to help you in your quest.
The #1 thing to remember is that we all have different skin. If a routine or certain products work for you, you they may not work as well - or at all, for someone else.
This is why it’s so tricky! We all deserve healthy, clear skin - so let’s break down the best skincare regimens for every skin type, to help lead you in the right direction!
Is your skin normal, dry, oily, combination, acne-prone, or sensitive? You may think you know your skin type, but chances are you have no idea! It's impossible to treat your skin properly if you don't even know what you're working with.

1. Normal Skin
First off, it should be noted that there really is no such thing as “normal” skin. This term simply means your skin is not too dry or too oily, and acne or sensitivity aren’t major concerns for you - this is the ideal skin type we all wish we had!
Below, let’s get into the exact regimen you should be following for your “Normal” Skin:
Cleanser: Lean towards gently lathering cleansers that are sulfate-free for clean and blemish-free skin.
Toner: Steer clear of products that contain any forms of alcohol and ethanol, as these ingredients are found in most toners but they can dry out the skin. Try looking for natural toners instead.
SPF Moisturizer: Try to find a moisturizer that has UVA/UVB protection and is minimum SPF 30. It would also be beneficial to you to find one with either titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. You should always make sure to moisturize both your face and neck, and apply a good layer to ensure your skin gets all the moisture and protection it can from the application!
Cleanser & Toner: You should use the same cleanser and toner as you do in the morning, and also try to stick with the same brands if you like them. It’s better not to do too much back and forth on your skin to avoid any irritation or sensitivity that could occur.
Serum: Look for serums that are very antioxidizing and also provide some brightening qualities from ingredients such as Vitamin C or an Algae extract. Natural ingredients like Peppermint and Rosemary will also provide a revitalizing boost! If you are needing some anti-ageing treatment, look for anti-ageing night serums that contain all or some of these.
Glycolic Acid: To keep normal skin “normal”, we recommend using a Glycolic acid on your skin a few times a week - but definitely not every day! This acid is particularly great for your skin because it has such a small molecular structure and can be absorbed much deeper in the skin. This aids in dissolving dry skin cells which encourage brighter, smoother and even-toned skin to appear

2. Dry Skin
If you have dry skin, it’s most commonly due to the fact that your skin's moisture barrier is broken. The skin can have invisible cracks in it where irritants get in and moisture escapes! When the moisture evaporates out of your skin this causes it to become very dry, even if just in small patches or all over.
Below, let’s get into the exact regimen you should be following for your Dry Skin:
Cleansing Lotion: Go for a super mild, non-foaming, non-lathering lotion (or milk!) that won’t dry out your skin! When you strip your skin of its natural oils, it overcompensates by producing even MORE oil - and this will not help your case because then your skin will just be oily!
Toner: Stay away from anything and everything with alcohol! Stick to natural products.
Antioxidant Serum: Look for serums high in Vitamin A, E and C, as they prevent collagen from breaking down.
Moisturizer: Again, look for a gentle moisturizer with at least SPF 30, even in the winter the sun is damaging our beautiful skin and forming wrinkles that we will see down the line!
Cleanser & Toner: Same as above!
Serum: Try to lean towards Retinol Serums in your dry skin regimen about five nights a week, no more. Serums have smaller molecules to better penetrate the skin.
Eye Cream: Always look for eye creams that are high in peptides as they provide a great collagen boost!
Moisturizer: Ingredients you should look for in moisturizers for dry skin also include; evening primrose oil, rosehip oil, almond oil and jojoba oil. These oils can imitate the natural lipids of your skin and do an amazing job in repairing the moisture barrier of your skin, making it more difficult for moisture to seep out!
Peel: Try doing an at-home face peel! Dry skin does well with gentle exfoliation. When your skin is dry, it usually means you have some build up of dead skin cells - hydrating those dead cells does nothing for you! You want to get them out of the way, and hydrate the cells that are still alive and well. Steer clear of facial scrubs with sharp edges, or that are too harsh.
Face Oils: In the case that your skin is extremely dry, you could change out your nighttime moisturizer for a natural face oil. Organic and hydrating oils/serums should be favored.

3. Oily/Acne-Prone Skin
If you have oily skin it might mean that your skin has larger oil glands as well as a higher sebum level than most. Unfortunately this is commonly genetic, and women with oily skin have it in their DNA - the main goal is to lower the amount of oil activity while making sure your cells are hydrated.
Below, let’s get into the exact regimen you should be following for your Oily Skin:
Cleansing Gel: Blemishes form from bacteria, and bacteria is bred from oil. You should wash your face three times a day if it’s possible - the more oil, the more chance for blemishes to appear. We recommend a sulfate-free foam or gel cleanser as these will cut the oil but also won’t dry out your skin.
Toner: Look for an alcohol free toner that contains any or all of the following; Sodium PCA, Geranium, or Witch Hazel. These are all natural ingredients that contain no alcohol and will clean the skin without drying.
Moisturizer: For oily skin you’ll want an oil-free moisturizer! Go for a light, oil-free moisturizer preferably containing (again) sodium PCA and glycerin - these help your skin to retain its moisture without appearing oily.
Sunscreen: Yes I know personally, it doesn’t feel right using sunscreen on oily skin - but this is just because you haven’t one compatible for your skin type. Go for Zinc Oxide sunscreens as they leave your skin with a matte finish as opposed to greasy/oily. It’s also a natural antibiotic, so great in the prevention of blemishes!
Cleanser & Toner: Same as above.
Serum: Serums with alpha-hydroxy or beta-hydroxy acids can aid in reducing the appearance of pores and also brighten any dullness. If you have blemish-prone skin, look for serums that also contain salicylic acid and/or tea-tree oil.
Moisturizer: Same as above.
Clay Masks: Invest in a gentle clay mask once a week, and make sure it doesn’t dry out too much before you rinse it off! This can actually dehydrate the skin.
Face Oil: It might seem strange or wrong to pair oily skin with face oil, but rest assured - they’re the perfect combo. Not to be used daily, but beneficial in drying environments ie. a plane! Use one drop on your face every hour, even over top moisturizer.

4. Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin does not necessarily mean you break out a lot, this more refers to skin that gets irritated or red easily, and needs to be handles with care!
Below, let’s get into the exact regimen you should be following for your Sensitive Skin:
Cleansing Lotion: Try a super gentle cleansing lotion free of sulfates, a cream or milk would work too as they don’t mess with your skin's natural barrier.
Toner: Again, make sure it’s an alcohol-free toner - look for ingredients like white tea extract, green tea, and chamomile which are calming and anti-inflammatory.
Moisturizer: Make sure it is unscented! Sensitive skin does not do well with synthetic perfumes or fragrances. Steer clear of synthetic dyes as well, as these can cause irritation and even allergic reactions in some.
Sunscreen: Again, find a zinc oxide sunscreen that is less likely to irritate your skin, titanium dioxide sunscreens are also good - but don’t do as well with medium to dark-skinned tones.
Cleanser, Toner & Moisturizer: Same as above!
Gel Mask: Gel masks act as natural temperature coolers, this is ideal for irritated and inflamed skin. It calms and cools the skin while also hydrating.
Lactic Acid Serum: Sensitive skinned individuals should not exclude the exfoliation process. In the case that glycolic acid is too strong for you, try a lactic acid serum that is gentler - apply this before bed only twice a week.

Some Overall Tips:
- If you only have time to wash your face once - do it at night, and NEVER sleep with your makeup on!
- If your skin feels “squeaky” clean after you wash, you’re probably stripping too much of the essential oils! Try using a soap-free, creamy cleaner instead.
- Always use moisturizers with SPF (preferably no lower than 30), and moisturize twice a day!
- For preventing fine lines go for products with hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid.
- For acne spots/scars, go for a retinoid cream or a cream with retinol!
